Swim Academy Director & SEQ Level 2 Swimming Instructor
Debi Abdelrahman
In 2023, I founded Oxfordshire Swim Academy in response to a clear gap in the local market for high-quality, small-group swimming lessons tailored to both children and adults. With over 25 years of experience in teaching swimming—from helping beginners gain water confidence to coaching competitive athletes—I’m passionate about ensuring everyone has access to progressive, supportive instruction. I previously owned and ran a successful swim school in Dubai in 2014, and I bring that international perspective and dedication to the academy here in Oxfordshire. I believe that teaching water safety and swimming is a vital life skill that should be taught from an early age, and I’m proud to provide this essential service to families across Oxfordshire and surrounding counties.

I find it incredible to see how much a child can grow and develop within their swimming journey in such a short period. Teaching young children is such an amazing opportunity.

I began teaching in 2014 after completing my ASA Level 1 certificate in teaching aquatics and then went straight on to do my Level 2 as I loved teaching so much. So I am now in my 10th year of teaching swimming. I love watching the children gain confidence and start to love swimming as much as I do. It is such a rewarding role.

I previously swam at Wycombe District Swimming Club for 5 years, progressing through the academy and competing in galas before deciding to become a swimming teacher. I love looking after and working with young children and decided to combine these passions by completing my STA Certificate in Swimming Teaching. I thoroughly enjoy helping in the growth of each child by uncovering their swimming potential and discovering their love for swimming.

I have been a swimming Teacher and Business owner, running my own Franchise since February 2011 up to May 2024 when I sold my business and joined Oxfordshire Swimming Academy
In 2010, I gained my full swimming teacher, baby and pre-school, aqua aerobics, aqua natal, and lifesaving certification with flying colours in only one year, and I have loved the experience.
Teaching children to swim is the most rewarding job I have ever had. So, when I sold my own business, I knew I still wanted to teach, so here I am now, working for OSA.

I have been involved in teaching swimming for the last 7 years and have worked for 3 swim schools across Buckinghamshire, as well as down in Portsmouth. I loved swimming as a child and want to make the experience as enjoyable as I can for others learning. I have always loved working with children and enjoy watching how quickly they can progress in the water, as well as learning the importance of water safety.

I’ve been swimming for most of my life and competitively for nearly 8 years. I love sharing my passion for the sport and teaching a wide range of ages and abilities. I’m also a rookie lifeguard instructor and believe in the importance of children learning to be confident in the water from a young age.

As a child I always loved to swim. Spending most of my summer days in the outdoor pool in my home town. I have recently rediscovered my passion for swimming when I joined a wild outdoor swimming club. This lead me to a career change to becoming a swimming instructor. It is such a pleasure to share and teach this wonderful sporting activity to children of all ages and to be part of their journey to becoming a strong confident swimmers. So they too can enjoy many safe and happy days enjoying the water.
"Debi is brilliant! As an adult swimmer who has done middle-distance triathlons, I could get around the course (1.9km)but I really needed some helpful (non-judgemental!) and constructive help to be more efficient and maybe a little faster!! A week's intensive course with Debi and now I know what I need to work on. Every swim now I’m practicing drills and I’m definitely improving. Highly recommended, I will be back for more!"
